Scotland on Film: Churchill (PG)

Date: 30th Nov 2017

Location: Venue 1

Time: 19:30

Saltire Festival: 30 November – 3 December 2017

Churchill 200x150

Director: Jonathan Teplitzky

Cast: Brian Cox, Miranda Richardson, John Slattery, Ella Purnell, Julian Wadham.

June 1944. Allied Forces stand on the brink: a massive army is secretly assembled on the south coast of Britain, poised to re-take Nazi-occupied Europe. One man stands in their way: Winston Churchill (Brian Cox). Behind the iconic figure and rousing speeches: a man who has faced political ridicule, military failure and a speech impediment. An impulsive, sometimes bullying personality - fearful, obsessive and hurting. The untold story of Britain’s most celebrated leader, uncovering the true nature of Churchill’s herculean war-time status and his vital relationship with “Clemmie” – his backbone and total confidant.

UK 2017 / 1h38m / PG – Contains mild bad language, scenes of smoking.

Scotland on Film: Tommy’s Honour (PG)

Date: 30th Nov 2017

Location: Venue 1

Time: 14:30

Saltire Festival: 30 November – 3 December 2017

Tommys Honour 200x150

Director: Jason Connery

Cast: Peter Mullan, Jack Lowden, Sam Neill, Ophelia Lovibond, Peter Ferdinando.

Directed by Jason Connery (The Philly Kid), Tommy's Honour is based on the powerfully moving true story of the fractious relationship between “Old” Tom (Peter Mullan) and “Young” Tommy Morris (Jack Lowden), the Scottish father-son team who ushered in the modern game of golf. At first matching his father’s success, Tommy’s talent and fame grew quickly to outshine his father’s, but his personal choices would ultimately drive a wedge between them (no pun intended). With a supporting cast featuring Ophelia Lovibond, Sam Neill and Peter Ferdinando, Connery's film is an impressively presented historical drama of real resonance.

UK/USA 2016 / 1h52m / PG – Contains mild bad language, sex references, distressing scenes.
