Fringe festivities underway!

The Brunton’s outstanding Fringe programme, which boasts a vibrant selection of festival entertainment for the whole family, is now underway.

Dougie MacLean opened proceedings in grand fashion last night to those lucky enough to get tickets to his sold out performance. Tickets are selling fast for this year's first class line-up of music and outdoor theatre, with a number of shows now close to selling out.

One of this year’s ‘Fringe Favourites’, The Mikado, visits Musselburgh next Saturday thanks to a new partnership with Musselburgh Racecourse and one of the UKs most popular outdoor theatre companies, Illyria.

Gilbert & Sullivan’s wry comic opera, The Mikado is set in the town of Titipu where flirting has been made illegal. The penalty, by order of the Mikado, is death. But what would happen if anyone dared to tell the Mikado that an execution had taken place when in fact it hadn’t?

This must- see piece of open air theatre will be performed on the beautiful Loretto Lawn. Bring your folding chairs, blankets and picnic and settle in for a romantic summer opera. If you don’t want to bring your own picnic, the café and bar will be open at the Racecourse especially for this event. Come rain or shine, this show guaranteed to leave you with smile on your face and a song in your heart.

Our open-air entertainment doesn’t end there though. On the 26 August Quantum Theatre bring fanciful and fabulous theatrical treats for all ages to the beautiful outdoor setting of Inveresk Lodge Garden. Follow Alice into the strange world she enters through the mirror above her drawing room fireplace in Alice through the Looking Glass; then join Pip as he encounters a series of mysterious characters who change his life forever in Charles Dickens’ classic tale, Great Expectations.

Those thinking of attending are encouraged to get their tickets early, as these shows are sure to sell out!
