Bend It Like Bertie
Starring Des McLean as Bertie Auld, in this comedy play.
Danny Mullen is footloose and fancy free and looking forward to the New Year. The only thing that is depressing Danny is Celtic. Both Celtic and Danny have forgotten what a trophy looks like and he is hoping they can win something, anything...enter Bertie Auld!
Follow the antics of Denise, Danny and Bertie in the hilarious comedy play, Bend it like Bertie.
The play is set in 1965, a time when Celtic were not the World-famous club they are now…far from it! They hadn’t won the league or cup in 11years, their support was disillusioned and seemed resigned to always be in the shadow of their great rivals, Rangers.
But then Bertie Auld returned in January 1965 and played a major role in the cup winning run over the following months, culminating in him scoring two goals in the final. That final was Bertie’s favourite ever game.
Winning a trophy after such a long time, gave the club a confidence boost and was the launchpad for Jock Stein"s all-conquering Celtic team. The team that were crowned the best in Europe only two years later!
