A panto twist on the classic tale presented in Musselburgh and Haddington by Brunton Theatre Trust.
The Wizard of Oz is produced by The Brunton, scripted by award winning writers Jack Nurse and Robbie Gordon and directed by Bruce Strachan.
Follow the yellow brick road to Musselburgh and Haddington for a panto adventure for all ages. Join Dorothy and a whole host of familiar faces on a whirlwind journey bursting with chart-topping pop hits, toe-tapping original tunes, shout-out-loud silliness and plenty of local laughs. Expect flying monkeys, fabulous frocks and more sparkle than a Tin Man’s foil hat!
The team is delighted to be working with a talented cast of actors and creatives including the always popular panto dame Graham Crammond. Graham has delighted Brunton panto audiences with his wit and charm for many years, most recently in Hansel and Gretel (2021) Sinbad The Pantomime (2022) and A Christmas Carol (2024). Graham plays Glinda and is joined by Caitlin Anderson as Dorothy, Paul Beeson as Tin Man, Nicola Jo Cully as Wicked Witch of the West, Ben Cunningham as Scarecrow and Alex Stewart as Lion.
Experienced theatre maker Bruce Strachan comes on board to direct. Bruce has been a director, theatre maker and acting teacher for 25 years. He has worked for a range of companies including the National Theatre of Scotland and the National Youth Theatre. He is a lecturer in Acting and Performance at Queen Margaret University, Musselburgh.
Amy Robinson, The Brunton’s Dance and Drama Development Officer, is an experienced choreographer for The Brunton’s pantos and other productions including the very well received Beauty and the Beast and School of Rock. More than 150 young people from across East Lothian auditioned to take part in the Chorus, and Amy had the very difficult job of whittling the number down to 24 young performers who were recruited to support the professional cast.
The Brunton’s pantomime is such a treasured tradition for our audiences and The Wizard of Oz promises to be another joyful, high-energy celebration of theatre and family fun. We are delighted that, once again, we can involve young people from our community in the integral role of the Chorus. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience being part of a professional production. With performances to schools across the county and in venues in Haddington and Musselburgh, we look forward to welcoming you to our magical musical pantomime!
